”Christmas doesn’t come from a store, maybe Christmas perhaps means a little bit more” – Dr. Seuss, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
Dr. Seuss and this children’s classic is an all-time favorite and enjoyed at all ages
This time of the year it is natual to reflect, pause and read. My pick for this Christmas weekend is Anne-Marie Slaughter‘s Renewal – From Crisis to Transformation in Our Lives, Work, and Politics.
I have long admired Ann-Marie Slaughter’s gusto since the she wrote a much-read 2012 article for the Atlantic, titled “Why Women still can’t have it all”, an honest and thoughtful write up, where she removed all the airbrushing from reality. I highly recommend reading the story here: https://lnkd.in/eUEUU7K3 and about Anne-Marie here: https://lnkd.in/e9EzJT_4
What drew me to this book is Slaughter’s recounting a difficult time of self‐examination and growth in the wake of a crisis that changed the way she lives, leads, and learns. The lessons here are not just for America. Slaughter shows how renewal is possible for anyone who is willing to see themselves with new eyes and embrace radical honesty, risk, resilience, interdependence, grace, and vision.
From my own experience, I have learnt that difficult times are meant to bring growth. Every time I face a challenge, I pause, and I ask myself – “What is this situation teaching me that I need to pay attention to, What do I need to do differently”, it changes the “fight the challenge” energy to “rise to the occasion” energy.
I’d love to hear what is on your reading list for this holiday season…
May your holidays be filled with love and rejoice. May you have a great time with your friends and family this Christmas! Sending my best wishes to all my friends, colleagues, partners and clients!
